Editorial Facilitation in Team Science: A proposed intervention to incentivize and reward collaborative, reproducible, open research

Presenter: Sarah Greene, CEO and Founder of Rapid Science.

Description: Rapid Science, a nonprofit organization that develops tools and processes to promote collaboration as a means of accelerating discovery. A key component is “Editorial Facilitation” of consortium science, which involves team sharing, reviewing, and publication of collaborators’ incremental findings, null results, and insights. The output is a continually updated “Facilitated Living Review” of the latest published evidence in the field of interest, informed by the expertise and cited work of members of the consortia. The effort is developed and led by an Editorial Facilitator -- a new professional role envisioned for individuals with subject matter, editorial, and facilitation expertise. This webinar will describe how the process addresses problems that often cripple funded research consortia, and indeed the scientific establishment at large, by promoting (1) serendipitous and meaningful encounters among team members, (2) “organic” review, replication, and revision of one’s early research outputs, and (3) a reward system that involves the highest form of incentives for researchers today.
