The INTEREACH community brings together practitioners and researchers of interdisciplinary integration - people who connect across teams, disciplines, and sectors to solve problems requiring diverse expertise. We share best practices, success metrics, and ideas for establishing boundary-spanning career paths.

Our Mission

To improve society's ability to address complex, interlinked problems by establishing career paths for boundary-spanning roles that require integrative skills, domain space knowledge, and proven practices to support combining and leveraging excellence across multiple disciplines in service of a shared goal.

The INTEREACH Community focuses its efforts on two main efforts through its webinars and collective resource development:

1. Developing the Profession

Making the case for the value of INTEREACH professionals to establish training and career pathways.

2. Professional Development

Training and educating INTEREACH professionals, the team scientists they serve, and students in the pipeline for either of those paths.

What We've Achieved

  • Established the INTEREACH Webinar series! Hosted regularly since January 2017 and open to all interested, this series showcases people in boundary-spanning roles, discusses challenges and best practices, and further identifies our networks. Propose a webinar topic here! These occur the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12noon Eastern Time and are recorded and posted in our Webinar Series Archive and on the Integration and Implementation Sciences YouTube Channel.

  • Started the INTEREACH reading and discussion club, also open to all interested, where we take turns proposing content to discuss and leading a presentation and discussion of boundary-spanning literature and methods in support of the INTEREACH dual mission. Propose a paper or topic here! These occur the 4th Tuesday of every month at 12noon Eastern Time and are not recorded to prioritize free discussion.

  • Started in 2015 through the Science of Team Science meetings, this interest group turned community of practice has become a watering hole for people with whom this connective job type and skill set resonates.

  • Meet annually at the Science of Team Science meeting since 2014 for face to face workshops.

  • Established the INTEREACH listserv - open communication and low barrier to entry, this allows us to access each other for advice, searching for job candidates, and publicizing relevant events and opportunities.

  • Collectively developed our group mission to develop career paths for this profession and to build professional development and education for the people on these paths.
