Description: This webinar is the first in a series of five webinars for spring 2021 all focused on understanding and using tools for spanning boundaries in research teams. This kickoff webinar will create initial common ground for the series. We will cover what a tool is, general principles for tool use in these settings, and specific cross-boundary needs that tools can address for research teams. This background will synthesize research from the science of team science, media and information studies, and cognitive science along with lessons learned from practice. We will open discussion for everyone to add their perspectives on these topics as well. Lastly, this webinar will introduce the additional learning tools we are offering to supplement this webinar series: an online catalogue of the tools covered in the series and optional worksheets that you can use to document your learning journey in your own “DIY Boundary Spanning Field Notebook.”
Speaker: Dr. Bethany K. Laursen, Assistant Dean, Michigan State University, Graduate School
